Case Study 1: Custom Grill Project

Customer: Ed Vesely from Baltimore, Maryland

Ed contacted us about a custom grill project after finding other metalwork shops unresponsive to his needs. Here's how we worked through it:

1. The customer provided preliminary sketches of what he wanted.
2. We worked through the sketches together via email, verifying dimensions and correcting measurement and alignment issues.
3. Once the dimensions were perfected, we provided a price estimate for approval.
4. JFD Cutting created digital cut files for the laser.
5. Materials were ordered — this job used 304 Stainless Steel with a #4 finish.
6. The materials were laser cut.
7. Secondary processes — in this case, forming (bending the metal into the correct shape) — were performed.
8. The customer picked up his pieces. We came in on a Saturday so he could pick up at his convenience.
9. We followed up to make sure he was happy with the work.

Case Study 2: Recurring Production Job

Customer: New Jersey-based manufacturer

This customer originally ordered their parts from China but needed to find a new supplier due to long lead times. They found JFD through a Google search.

1. The customer sent us a print.
2. We drafted a cut file from that print — drafting is one of the additional services we offer.
3. We sent a sample for approval. Once approved, they placed their first order.
4. We cut and formed the metal.
5. The customer arranged freight pick-up and we shipped it out.
6. This has since become a recurring job. Our machines can "remember" past jobs, making repeat orders even faster than the original.
